| 2 | Elijah May Born: 1785 Married: 1815 Sarah Antonette Nice Died: 1860 (or 1861) When Elijah was left an orphan he lived with a guardian in Fluvanna County until grown. When married he lived for a short time in Richmond VA but moved to a farm in Albarmarls Co VA on old stage road between Charlottsville and Staunton called "Yancy Mills". This is where the first of his five children were born. This place was sold to their head manager Sam Cocke and they moved to Staunton where he was a merchant and his other children were born. He retired about 1840 and for a time lived in Mt. Sidney but then bought a place near Scottsville called Mt. Airy. Later his son Coleman took over this place and Elijah and his wife went to Bristol VA (her home) where they both died. Elijah had heard one of Patrick Henry's great speeches. Patrick was the first Gov. of Virginia for 13 years after independance and was elected the 2nd time. |
